We’re organising a series of events across the North East to bring together food-based community groups, food activists and people who want to make the food system healthier, more fair, and more sustainable. We want you to identify how you would change the food system, and to work with researchers to develop solutions.
We have organised events in April in Gateshead and Newcastle (see Join us to discuss the future of food and farming) and we are planning an event in Durham in early May.
These events will offer the opportunity to find out more about ‘Our Food’ and get involved in the project. There will be time to discuss issues around food and farming in your community, especially the role of research, and look to offer a chance for networking, stimulation and debate. A short talk will be given about Our Food – how this new project is looking to re-vision the future of our food system and change who gets a say into food research and policy. The project is looking to train 15-20 people as community researchers who are passionate about making sure the future of food serves the common good.
If you are interested in attending the County Durham Feast, please get in touch with Amy Mycock and let her know which of the following dates are best for you:
1pm on Saturday 5th May
- 6.30pm on Wednesday 9th May
1pm on Saturday 12th of May Please also let her know where you are travelling from so that she can find a suitable venue.
UPDATE: The event date has been chosen – Wednesday 9 May 6.30 – 9.30pm in Durham City centre. See: Discuss the future of food and farming in Durham
The event is free, but there are limited places, so if you would like to attend please email Amy on email@example.com to reserve a place, stating any dietary preferences and access needs. There are some funds available to reimburse travel expenses or the cost of additional support such as carers. A crèche can be arranged if needed. Please let her know if you have these, or other needs. A delicious buffet will be on offer free of charge.
If you are interested in attending the event in Newcastle on 21 April please contact William Mortada on firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are looking for a venue and a local food chef to cater for 30-40 people for this event. You don’t have to be based in Durham city: Darlington, Stanhope, Bishop Auckland or Barnard Castle would be great. Please get in touch with Amy if you’re interested in catering on 5th, 9th or 12th May.
